The Correlation Analysis of Diet Habit, Caries Prevalence and Caries Activity

Abstract
The authors had surveyed 85 persons of 12 year-old children about diet habit, caries prevalance and caries activity. The Oral Examination was preformed under the principle of Worid Health Organization(WHO).
By the method of three day food intake diary, the author surveyed the food intake. Stimulated saliva was collected for 5 minutes by the use of paraffin wax. Then the salivary flow rate(ml/min) was calculated. By use of DentobuffR strip(Orion
Diagnostica, Espoo, Finland), buffering capacity of final pH after 5 minutes was observed. By use of DentocultR SM strip(Orion Diagnotica, Espoo, Finladn), Streptococcus mutans was selectively cultures.
@ES The obtained results were as follows:
@EN 1. The average intake frequency of cariogenic food per day was 2.42¡¾1.47 times. The ranks of intake frequency were solid snack, liquid snack, solid meal, liquid meal.
2. Simple correlation coefficient between DMFS lndex and the total frequency of cariogenic food intake was statically significant(r=0.33, P<0.01). Especially the intake frequency of liquid and solid form of snack were statically significant.
3. Simple correlation coefficients between the intake frequency of cariogenic snack and caries risk factors were statically signifiant as follows; Lactobacilli(r=0.26, P<0.01) S. mutans (r=0.25, P<0.05), Salivary flow rate(r=-0.19, P<0.05).
4. Multiple Correlation between DMFS lndex and the intake frequency of 2 forms of cariogenic snacks was statically significant (r=0.40, P<0.01). And the Simple correlation between the intake frequency of cariogenic snack and 3 cariogenic risk
factors
was statically significant(r=0.34, P<0.05).
